Marshawn Lynch spent 12 NFL seasons running through defenders. Days after the Seahawks lost 33-31 to the Commanders on Sunday, the former running back is back in the conversation for a very different reason.
Lynch has opened up about a number tied to his final years in the league. One number from his training staff puts that price in stark terms.
Marshawn Lynch explains the seven car crashes claim
Lynch shared the story on All The Smoke Fight, and it began in a training room after a game. Late in his career, tracking packs inside shoulder pads started measuring the contact he absorbed. A trainer reviewed his data and noticed how he was moving.
Then came the total. Lynch recalled: "It totaled out to seven total car crashes." Asked whether that came from one hit, he replied: "No, from one game."
He added that running back is the only position where a player must get past all 11 defenders to succeed.
The workload fits the number. From 2011 to 2014, Lynch rushed for a league-best 5,357 yards and 48 touchdowns, according to Seahawks.com. He also led the NFL with 59 broken tackles in 2012, per RotoWire.

Injuries and surgeries limited him to seven games in 2015 and six in 2018. Lynch finished with 10,413 rushing yards, five Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl XLVIII title with Seattle .
The NFL says sensors in shoulder pads, helmets and some mouthguards help guide training and injury prevention. The comparison is Lynch's own account.
The former RB says he was fortunate with his knees and ankles, though he deals with some degenerative issues and shoulder injuries. He credits his faith for getting him through.
Lynch's name also surfaced recently for a very different comment about a young quarterback.
Marshawn Lynch jokes about Jayden Daniels ' elbow injury
Lynch made waves after Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in Washington's 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on September 20. Daniels exited after the final play of the first half, he had completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards and one touchdown.

Lynch discussed the injury, on The Get Got Pod with Mike Robinson. He made a crude joke about injury prevention and tied it to the forearm strength behind his famous stiff arm.
Josh Allen tied Lynch for 17th on the NFL's all-time rushing touchdown list with 85, according to FOX Sports, after Buffalo, Lynch's first NFL team, beat the Chargers 24-16 on Sunday.
Seattle's backfield, once powered by Lynch, now features rookie Jadarian Price, a first-round pick out of Notre Dame.
The Seahawks are 2-1 and host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, October 4, at 4:25 p.m. ET. Seattle leans on Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has 405 receiving yards through three games. Justin Herbert and the 0-3 Chargers need a first win.
