The Seattle Seahawks re-signed cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles for another one-year contract on Saturday.
Aaron Wilson first reported the deal around noon PDT.
Jean-Charles appeared in 37 NFL games from 2021-2024 with the Green Bay Packers , San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints before spending all of 2025 on Seattle's practice squad. It seems the Super Bowl Champions appreciated him enough as part of the beloved "Ready Squad" and "The 70" to bring him back for another round as such. Despite remaining a practice player throughout last season, he enjoyed being around the Seahawks enough to come back as well. With their cornerback depth taking hits in free agency , the door is wide open for him to step onto the 53-man roster at some point in 2026.

When Seattle brought Jean-Charles in (almost exactly this time last year), he was expected to compete for the No. 4 corner role . Although he didn't suit up in 2025, he spent the entire year familiarizing himself with the team's defense. His experience should help him compete for a roster spot with a better shot at winning a backup role this time around.
Seattle also brought in Noah Igbinoghene today, and the position battle between these two could be one of the more interesting storylines during training camp. This team sure loves their style of defensive backs, and isn't afraid to exhaust all options to find and develop them. That's part of what made the 2025 team so special.
