The Seattle Seahawks signed rookie guard Evan Beerntsen to their practice squad Monday afternoon. Aaron Wilson was first on the move with this X post, right on the hour at 2 p.m. PST.
Beerntsen was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens with the 37th pick in the 7th round of the 2026 NFL Draft. That's good for 253rd overall and just four away from being this year's Mr. Irrelevant. He spent six years at FCS powerhouse South Dakota State before finishing up at Northwestern, where the jump in level appeared not to faze him. He earned an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference that certainly helped a Ravens ' scout stand on the table for him. However, he has limitations that require usage, and Week 1 proved the Ravens' system to be worth too much to cater to a guard's style. They waived him during final roster cuts two Sundays ago.
He's a smaller interior lineman with plus athleticism, suggesting a positive presence in a zone-blocking scheme and as a pulling guard. Just how much does being on the smaller side hinder him, though? He stands 6'3'⅝" and weighs 301 pounds, with 9.380 inch hands and 32.130 in arms. Despite all this, his relative athleticism scores out in the 73.5th percentile. So far, we're looking at a potentially solid backup option. Once we look at the tape and opinions of scouts, we'll know more.
Both Lance Zierlein's NFL.com Draft Profile and Dane Brugler's The Beast Profile had Round 5-6 projections on Beerntsen. They're both clearly worried about his length in pass sets but excited about his angles and run blocking. This might signal one of the rare parallels between fantasy football and NFL team management- the Week 1 waiver wire might have some of the higher profile availabilities all season. Beerntsen was just a draft pick and even could've been a higher Day 3 one, and now, the Seahawks just got him for free.
