The Pittsburgh Steelers report to camp on Tuesday. Saint Vincent College will welcome new head coach Mike McCarthy and his team as they prepare for the 2026 installment of their annual training camp . The team will face plenty of questions when it arrives on campus, including several health-related concerns that fans and media members will seek clarity on. One player who could be part of those discussions is free-agent signing Sebastian Joseph-Day .
Ray Fittipaldo told 93.7 The Fan that Joseph-Day potentially suffered an injury late in the spring that could keep him out early in training camp.
"I think he's an established guy in the league, a good role player," Fittipaldo said. "He could play inside, he could play outside. He got a little bit nicked up at the end of the spring. So, I'll be watching the PUP list. Maybe he's on there with Jones. Maybe it was just a minor thing, but that happened at such a late juncture of the spring that we never really got an update on him."
Joseph-Day potentially landing on the PUP list shouldn't be a major concern

If Joseph-Day does begin training camp on the PUP list, it likely won't be a major concern. If there were a serious injury issue, there would likely be more information available by now. Joseph-Day is a veteran who has played in multiple defensive systems throughout his career. He has the experience and football intelligence to quickly pick up the defense once he returns to the field. In some ways, the added time off could even benefit him.
In this scenario, Joseph-Day could receive some extended rest, something few veterans would complain about, especially once the Latrobe heat begins to take its toll on the team. The additional recovery time would allow him to enter the 2026 season as healthy as possible. His contributions on the field will be important for the defensive line, but he can also begin making an impact off the field right away.

One of the biggest benefits of Joseph-Day's arrival is that the Steelers now have two long-time veteran defensive tackles in the room. That experience could play an important role in the development of younger linemen such as Keeanu Benton , Yahya Black , and Derrick Harmon . Joseph-Day likely won't step in as a defensive line coach, but it is reasonable to expect him to provide guidance as those players continue to grow.
Joseph-Day played alongside Aaron Donald when the Los Angeles Rams won Super Bowl LVI, and he can share those experiences with a younger group of defensive tackles. At the very least, he will have plenty of valuable stories and lessons from his time in the league.
The priority for Joseph-Day will be getting healthy and returning to the field. However, if the Steelers choose to take a cautious approach with his recovery, it won't be the end of the world.
