PITTSBURGH —New Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day is chomping at the bit to learn from seven-time Pro Bowler Cam Heyward in Pittsburgh. Heyward is a player that Joseph-Day has always admired watching from afar.

“Oh man, Cam, first-ballot [Hall of Famer]. Tremendous football player, and from what I seem from afar, I don’t know him personally, even better human being. What he does in the community, that’s awesome. I’m super excited to pair up with him. His game is amazing,” Joseph-Day said.

“When I watch film, because a lot of the teams that I’ve played for were 3-4 defenses, so you always watch teams that have comps so you can see the blocks you’ll get. I always watch Cam and he’s always whipping ass. I never see him lose.”

Joseph-Day has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams (2019-21), Los Angeles Chargers (2022-23), San Francisco 49ers (2023) and Tennessee Titans (2024-25).

Joseph-Day is a 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman who will be in his eighth NFL season this fall. He has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams (2019-21), Los Angeles Chargers (2022-23), San Francisco 49ers (2023) and Tennessee Titans (2024-25).

He recorded 44 tackles in 2024, with three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, six quarterback hits and a pass defended. Last season, he had 41 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, six quarterback hits and a fumble recovery.

Joseph-Day is very versatile, playing nose tackle, three-technique defensive tackle and defensive end.

“I think, honestly, it’s me not boxing myself in,” Joseph-Day said about his versatility. “From the start, the beginning of my career, I played a lot of nose next to Aaron Donald , then when I left the Rams, we kinda had a need. We had one of our D-tackles that they signed get hurt, so they were like, ‘Hey, can you play this three?’ I was like, ‘Whatever the team needs me to do.’ And I did it, and I just didn’t box myself in.

“Whenever I went to Tennessee, there was (T’Vondre) Sweat. Sweat is like 360 pounds, he’s a big man. So obviously he couldn’t play four or five, so it was a no-brainer. Jeff (Simmons) was a three, and I was like, ‘I’ll play the five. I’ll play the six. I’ll play the four.’ … Just being (able) to adapt and take pride in being that guy to whatever you need me to do, I’ll be that (Swiss Army) knife.”
