Senators vs. Golden Knights best bet: Brayden McNabb Under 1.5 Shots on Goal
Vegas defenseman Brayden McNabb has never built his reputation on offense.
Primarily deployed as a physical, stay-at-home defender, McNabb's point production usually sits on the back burner. That's what makes his recent run so surprising: McNabb has logged two or more shots on goal in each of his last three games and shockingly paces all Golden Knights blueliners in assists.
However, a closer look under the hood reveals that this offensive burst is ripe for regression, primarily because McNabb struggles mightily to get pucks on cage.
While he ranks second on Vegas with 3.6 shot attempts per contest, only 1.2 of those attempts actually hit the net. Per MoneyPuck, McNabb leads all Vegas defensemen in missed shots (13) and ranks second on the team with 18 of his attempts being blocked. He is firing with volume, but the accuracy simply isn't there to sustain this recent spike in on-target production.
Tonight, that lack of precision meets one of the league's most dedicated shot-blocking units. The Senators rank fourth in the NHL with 173 total blocked shots, averaging a stout 14.4 blocks per game.
Ottawa's active sticks and willingness to clog shooting lanes in the defensive zone should routinely absorb or deflect McNabb's attempts from the point before they ever reach the goaltender.
McNabb's recent run of multi-shot outings has artificially inflated his profile, but his woeful shot accuracy combined with Ottawa's elite shot-blocking presence points to a sharp regression spot.
Our projections identify a standout 13.4% edge on fading the Golden Knights blueliner to hit the net tonight.
Best Bet: Brayden McNabb Under 1.5 Shots on Goal
