Real Salt Lake finally found a way to win again. After a brutal stretch where the team failed to win for 13 straight games, they looked like a completely different squad on Saturday night. It wasn't just a win; it was a statement that the drought is over.
A Dominant Performance in Utah
The 3-0 victory over the New England Revolution was fueled by a massive night from Sergi Solans. According to the Associated Press, Solans found the back of the net twice, marking his second multi-goal game of the season. The scoring started early when 19-year-old homegrown player Aiden Hezarkhani took a first-touch shot in just the second minute of play. Solans then took over the match in the second half. Per the Associated Press, Solans ran onto a ball-ahead from Noel Caliskan in the 62nd minute, beat defender Joshua Wynder, and rolled a shot past goalkeeper Matt Turner to make it 2-0, according to Yahoo Sports . He completed his night in the 80th minute by scoring from point-blank range.
Clutch Plays Over Possession
I don't care how much of the ball a team has if they can't score. The Revolution dominated possession at 62%, but they left the door wide open for RSL to strike. This win proves that efficiency wins championships. RSL had lost four games in a row and seven of their last eight before this night. You can't survive in this league without finding a way to close games out. Seeing a young player like Hezarkhani score so early gives this team a much-needed spark. If they can keep playing with this kind of clinical edge, that winless streak will stay in the past. RSL moves to 9-13-5 on the season and looks to keep this momentum going when they play at Philadelphia on October 10.
