Cagliari's Yael Trepy has been transported by air ambulance to hospital and placed in intensive care following a near-drowning incident in a swimming pool.
The episode occurred at a residence in Sardinia where the 20-year-old Serie A star was taking time off after his team had clinched a Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo. Trepy, who allegedly does not know how to swim, was discovered in the pool's deepest section.
Cagliari's roster received two days of rest following Friday's 1-0 win - a match in which Trepy featured for 53 minutes before being substituted, as per The Mirror .

The club released a statement saying: "Yael Trepy is currently hospitalized at the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, where he is in intensive care.
"The Club is in constant contact with the healthcare facility and the player's family and is closely monitoring the progress of his condition. At this time, Cagliari Calcio's thoughts are with Yael and his family. The Club also requests the utmost respect for their privacy and will provide any updates when available."
Cagliari secured 14th place last term and will kick off their Serie A schedule with a trip to Parma on Saturday. The team is scheduled to resume training on Monday after their two-day respite.
The French talent joined Cagliari in 2022 from Parisian fourth-tier team US Créteil-Lusitanos, going on to feature for the Italian team's junior sides before making his Serie A bow last January.

Trepy initially competed with US Creteil-Lusitanos, an outfit located in Paris's outer districts, before relocating to Italy in 2022 and advancing through Cagliari's development program.
The majority of the French striker's outings last season came in Primavera 1, Italy's premier tier of youth soccer.
Trepy made 24 appearances for Cagliari Primavera during that campaign, finding the net on 11 occasions.
