The college basketball transfer portal is in full swing now that the offseason is officially here. For the Seton Hall Pirates , a team that is looking to get back into the NCAA Tournament, they landed a commitment from an intriguing player in the transfer portal in former Texas and St. John’s guard Simeon Wilcher , as per Joe Tipton of On3.
Seton Hall had lost five players so far to the transfer portal, and Wilcher is their first commitment of the offseason. To this point, the Pirates had seen Jacob Dar, Godswill Erheriene , Adam Clark , TJ Simpkins and Najai Hines all enter the portal. The acquisition of Wilcher will help bolster Seton Hall’s guard depth.
Wilcher will be entering his senior year and final season of college basketball eligibility after playing last season at Texas. He appeared in 36 games, including one start, at a little over 18 minutes per game. He averaged 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists with spilts if 36.6 percent shooting from the field, 33.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 91.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
He began his college basketball career at St. John’s where he played for two seasons before transferring to Texas. He is a strong defensive player who should be able to make a solid impact for the Pirates.
This past season, Seton Hall finished with an overall record of 21-12, but only 10-10 in Big East play. The Pirates missed the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. This upcoming year will be the Pirates’ fifth under Shaheen Holloway as head coach.
