Geno Auriemma can be quite outspoken at times, and this time round is no different.
Geno Auriemma has spent four decades saying whatever he wants, and with 12 national titles and over a thousand wins at UConn, he knows nobody can really check him.
He's always fiercely protective of his circle, whether he's hyping up Paige Bueckers or cheering on former Huskies like Gabby Williams making noise out in the Bay with the Valkyries.
If you wore the UConn jersey, Geno will go to war for you every time. But if you didn't? Good luck getting him to give you your flowers without some kind of backhanded comment attached.
Geno Auriemma claims Caitlin Clark was a nobody as a freshman
Geno Auriemma couldn't resist weighing in on Caitlin Clark once again, but his latest take ruffled serious feathers.
He told Front Office Sports: "When Caitlin was a freshman, she didn't capture anybody's imagination. And then all of a sudden, two years later, you have all these new fans and she's making shots from the logo. And Caitlin became their connection to women's basketball. You know, that's a tough thing for her to live through. And I think she's managed it pretty well."
Saying nobody cared about Caitlin Clark her freshman year is flat-out nonsense. She led the entire nation in scoring, put up nearly 27 points and 7 assists a night, and had Sue Bird publicly admitting Iowa was appointment TV because Clark was the most electrifying player in the country.
The hype didn't magically show up two years later out of nowhere, anyone actually watching basketball was hooked from day one.
