- Sources: Coventry City plotting to trigger Everton player's release clause
Coventry Citycould sign Everton goalkeeper Mark Travers by triggering a clause in his contract, sources have told Football Insider.
The newly-promoted club are ready to activate a release clause in the 27-year-old's contract to lure him to the CBS Arena as they aim to bolster Frank Lampard 's squad.

Travers joined Everton from Bournemouth for £4million last summer, and any departure is likely to cost a similar fee if not more, with the Toffees likely to profit.
Since moving to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the goalkeeper has largely played backup to Jordan Pickford , and has made just two appearances, both in the Carabao Cup.
However, he remains highly regarded and is seen as a very capable goalkeeper as Coventry plan to strengthen ahead of their return to the top flight.
Travers' contract at Everton is set to run until 2029, but if his release clause is activated, he could be convinced to join Coventry in search of more regular game time.

Why do Coventry City want to sign Mark Travers?
Travers has mostly been utilised as a second-choice goalkeeper in his Premier League career, having played backup roles at both Bournemouth and Everton.
However, he has impressed in the second tier after loan spells withStoke CityandMiddlesbrough, and could now be handed a chance in the Premier League.
Coventry's pursuit of a new goalkeeper comes after Carl Rushworth returned to his parent club Brighton , with no agreement over a permanent move as things stand.
That could open the door for Travers to compete for the number-one spot at the CBS Arena, although sources insist Coventry remain keen to land Rushworth.

Instead, the Everton goalkeeper would likely add strength in depth to Lampard's squad, while being given the chance to feature and impress in cup competitions.
Coventry City make new plan as Brighton respond to £20m Carl Rushworth bid Coventry line up Carl Rushworth 'compromise' as Brighton transfer talks continue What is the latest on Coventry signing Carl Rushworth?
Speculation surrounding Coventry's goalkeeping position comes as they remain at a crossroads, with Rushworth having returned to Brighton and no deal agreed.
The Sky Blues made a £20million offer to sign last season's Championship Player of the Season, in an attempt to bring him back, but saw the move rejected by Brighton.

Former Coventry assistant manager Mick Brown told Football Insiderthat Brighton are demanding more than £20m for Rushworth given how highly regarded he has become.
That is not expected to deter the Sky Blues from making a fresh move, with an increased offer likely to be submitted as the goalkeeper is their top target this summer.
However, following their promotion to the Premier League, they will now be made to contend with the finances and valuations involved in bid deals.
