- South Africa Performs Ronaldo Celebration After World Cup Equalizer vs. Czechia
Neither Czechia nor South Africa could afford another slip. Both sides walked into Atlanta Stadium on Thursday having already dropped their opening World Cup match, which meant this group stage clash carried real weight for both teams.
South Africa had lost 2-0 to Mexico on June 11. Czechia fell 2-1 to South Korea the same day. With elimination pressure building early, something had to give. Czechia struck first and struck fast. Michal Sadilek scored the quickest goal of the 2026 World Cup to put his side up 1-0, and that lead held for most of the game.

South Africa looked like they were heading toward back-to-back defeats until a penalty changed everything late in the match. The ball caught a Czech defender's arm inside the box and Teboho Mokoena stepped up, kept his composure and converted to pull his side level.
The equalizer kept South Africa's tournament hopes alive. But it was what happened right after that got everyone talking. Mokoena sprinted to the corner flag and broke out Cristiano Ronaldo 's "Nap" celebration, also known as the "Peace of Mind."
He closed his eyes, folded his arms across his chest and leaned his head back. Teammates rushed over and joined in, recreating the moment together on one of football's biggest stages. It was a visible reminder of just how far Ronaldo's influence reaches in the game.

What Is Ronaldo's 'Nap' Celebration?
The "Nap" celebration is one of the quieter moments in Ronaldo's long highlight reel but it caught on faster than most expected. He first debuted it on October 9, 2022 during a Premier League match against Everton at Goodison Park.
Ronaldo came off the bench that day and scored the winner, which also happened to be the 700th club goal of his career. Instead of launching into his trademark "Siuuu," he calmly walked to the touchline, smiled, closed his eyes, folded his arms and leaned his head back.

The contrast with his usual celebration made it stand out immediately. For days, fans tried to figure out what it meant. Some thought it carried a religious meaning. Others figured it was a signal that he had put the game to bed.
The real story turned out to be a lot more straightforward. Reports revealed it was an inside joke between Ronaldo and his teammates. Known for his strict approach to fitness and recovery, Ronaldo reportedly takes multiple 90-minute naps throughout the day rather than sleeping in one long stretch.
His teammates had seen him sitting in that exact position on team buses and flights, head back, arms folded, completely out. The celebration was his way of bringing that habit onto the pitch. Mokoena brought it to the World Cup. Ronaldo's fingerprints are everywhere in this game.
