Marshall is already 0-2 in the Sun Belt East and all but out of the Sun Belt title chase, but it's 3-3 overall and has a shot to make life rough for contending conference teams.
South Alabama is just one of those teams. It's 2-0 in the Sun Belt and 4-2 overall, with a high-powered offense that put 52 up on ULM and 56 against Arkansas State in its two conference wins. Win, and it'll be the program's best start since going 5-2 in 2023.

Why South Alabama Will Win
The offense is humming on all cylinders. It's great at going on long marches and holding on to the ball for stretches – turnovers aren't an issue – with the offense exploding for 39 points or more in four of the six games, winning all four.
It's an almost perfectly balanced attack that can adapt and adjust on the fly, and Marshal hasn't shown enough defense yet to slow it down, especially against the run.

Why Marshall Will Win
If the Marshall offense was ever going to turn it loose, this would be the time to do it. It's there, but the attack hasn't been consistent enough. When it's on, and the quarterbacks aren't throwing picks – Carlos Del Rio-Wilson gave up three interceptions in the loss to Coastal Carolina – it can keep up.
South Alabama doesn't do much to come up with third down stops, and that's partly why it gives up way too many passing yards. However …

South Alabama doesn't have a problem keeping up in shootouts. It actually prefers it. What it can't do is pull off wins when the run defense isn't holding up.
The Jaguars are 0-2 when allowing more than 155 yards on the ground. Marshall has hit that mark three times this year. The Thundering Herd makes up for the turnover mistakes in last week's loss to Coastal Carolina with a terrific home win.
