Devin Vassell enjoyed an incredible stretch of plays during the second half of the San Antonio Spurs’ clash with the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 1 of the first-round series on Sunday night.

Vassell is going through the sixth season of his NBA career with the Spurs. He made his way up the ranks to earn a full-time starting role as one of the team’s most reliable players.

Vassell has improved as a two-way player over the years, helping the Spurs get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2019. He enjoyed a productive night as he put together an incredible stretch of plays that lasted within 80 seconds midway through the third quarter. It started with him blocking two of Portland’s shots then converting back-to-back triples from downtown.

Devin Vassell got to enjoy a solid night as the Spurs coasted to a great home win over the Trail Blazers in Game 1 of the first-round series.

Perimeter shooting and rebounding made the difference in this matchup. The Spurs prevailed in both categories after making 15 3-pointers on a 45% clip and securing 45 rebounds. It wasn’t the same for the Trail Blazers as they only knocked down 10 triples on 26% accuracy and grabbed 38 rebounds.

Five players scored in double-digits for San Antonio in the win, including Vassell. He finished with a stat line of 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. He shot 5-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Victor Wembanyama led the charge with 35 points and five rebounds, De’Aaron Fox came next with 17 points and eight assists, Stephon Castle had 17 points and seven assists, while Luke Kornet provided 10 points and six rebounds.

The Spurs will look to take a 2-0 series lead when they host the Trail Blazers in Game 2. The matchup is set for April 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
