Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs looked to tie the Western Conference Finals as they hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder at Frost Bank Center in Game 4 on Sunday.
After struggling in the last two games, Wembanyama went to work early, setting the tone for the Spurs. Some have grown concerned that fatigue may have settled in for the ultra-talented center, but he has no other choice but to push through and embrace the challenge.
The Spurs entered the break with a 12-point lead, 50-38, punctuated by Wembanyama's buzzer-beater from halfcourt , whipping the home crowd into a frenzy.
Wembanyama had 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting, five rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocks in the first half.
San Antonio held Oklahoma City to just 34% shooting from the field.
He is a man on a mission. After their loss in Game 3, the 22-year-old superstar acknowledged that he is not doing a good job of helping his teammates. He is fully aware of his role as the team's cornerstone, and he does not take it lightly.
While he has been scoring well, Wembanyama might need to get more aggressive in attacking the basket and dominating the glass. He only had four rebounds in Game 3.
Wembanyama has proven that he can shoot from way out, draining a three-pointer near the logo in Game 1, which forced a second overtime.
But he is at his best when he is in the interior, punishing the Thunder with his size, dexterity, and athleticism. The Spurs have been outscored in the paint in the last two games.
