It's been a challenging couple of years for Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin , who appeared in just 20 regular-season games in 2024-25 before tearing his ACL in December, costing him the rest of the 2025-26 campaign.
The 2011 Stanley Cup champion will look to stay healthy this upcoming season, and it looks like the veteran is progressing well from the injury.
The 34-year-old was back on the ice with his teammates this week for the Stars' captain's skate, marking his first time skating with the group since suffering the injury on Dec. 2. He underwent surgery on Dec. 16, and the typical recovery timeline from ACL surgery is around nine months.

That puts Seguin on track to be ready for the beginning of training camp, which is roughly two weeks away. While there is still plenty of work to be done before he can return to game action, getting back on the ice this early is an encouraging sign for the veteran.
Seguin suffered the ACL tear against the New York Rangers after a collision with defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov . He had already missed significant time the previous season following hip surgery, although he returned for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs and chipped in eight points in 18 games. The Stars were defeated by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final that year.
Seguin was productive when he was available in 2025-26, recording seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 27 games. He also finished with a plus-10 rating before the injury brought his campaign to an abrupt end.
The Stars ultimately fell to the Minnesota Wild in six games in the first round in 2026, and Seguin failed to play a postseason game for the first time in five years.
Getting Seguin back healthy will provide a significant boost to a Dallas lineup that still has plenty of championship aspirations. The former second overall pick has scored 367 goals and 826 points in 1,016 career NHL games, and he's reached the 30-goal mark six times in his career.
Seguin has also been through the grind of deep playoff runs with the Stars, helping Dallas reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2020 and three consecutive Western Conference Finals from 2023-25.
The biggest question now is whether the 34-year-old can return to something resembling his old form.
Seguin said in May that he believes he will be "as strong as ever" once he completes his recovery, per NHL.com, although he acknowledged that every ACL recovery is different. For now, getting back on the ice is a step in the right direction.
