The Minnesota Timberwolves are in an advantageous position in their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets , as they are heading into their Game 5 clash on Monday night with a 3-1 series lead. However, the injury bug has not been kind to the Timberwolves whatsoever. Anthony Edwards will be out for multiple weeks with a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise, while Donte DiVincenzo is out for a year or so after rupturing his Achilles.

Edwards and DiVincenzo comprise the Timberwolves’ backcourt, and without them, Minnesota is going to have to figure out who to go to as they try to close out the series against the Nuggets. In Game 5, Minnesota will be turning to Game 4 hero Ayo Dosunmu to fill in for Edwards, while veteran guard Mike Conley will be starting at the point amid DiVincenzo’s long-term injury, as pointed out by ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel.

Dosunmu is coming off the best game of his career to this point, dropping 43 points in a thorough demolition of the Nuggets on Saturday to power them to a 112-96 victory. He will surely be one of the Timberwolves’ go-to scoring options alongside Julius Randle , and he’ll be looking to keep his hot streak going as the series shifts to the road.

Conley is a far cry from the player he once was, but he knows his role. The Timberwolves simply need him to bring the ball up, set up the offense, and hit open shots while surviving on defense. At 38 years of age, however, it’s likely that he cedes the majority of minutes to Bones Hyland anyway should Minnesota need more of an offensive punch.

The Timberwolves have shown over the past few years that they show up when it matters the most. But without Edwards and DiVincenzo for the rest of the Nuggets series, they are going to have to dig deep to avoid being another team to let a 3-1 series lead slip from their fingers.
