The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the jersey numbers for their rookies from the 2026 NFL Draft class.
The Steelers made 10 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, and those players have made their picks of numbers from the available selections.
OT Max Iheanachor, No. 71
WR Germie Bernard, No. 17
QB Drew Allar, No. 16
CB Daylen Everette, No. 23
OG Gennings Dunker, No. 73
WR/KR Kaden Wetjen, No. 42
FB Riley Nowakowski, No. 37
DL Gabriel Rubio, No. 96
S Robert Spears-Jennings No. 28
RB/WR Eli Heidenreich, No. 29
While the NFL has recently relaxed the positional standards for uniform numbers, almost all of the Steelers picks fall into the traditional paradigm. Only wide receiver/kick returner Kaden Wetjen’s No. 42 falls outside the traditional box.
Wetjen chose 42, despite more-traditional wide receiver numbers 10, 81 and 83 being available.
Bernard chose No. 17, last worn by quarterback Skylar Thompson in 2025 and last worn by a Steelers wide receiver when Anthony Miller donned it in 2021. Bernard wore No. 5 at Alabama and Michigan State and No. 4 at Washington, all of which were already spoken for on the Steelers.
Allar’s No. 16 is one digit higher than his Penn State No. 15, currently worn by Ben Skowronek in Pittsburgh. Adam Thielen wore 16 for the Steelers last season. The last Pittsburgh quarterback to wear those digits was two-time Super Bowl champion Charlie Batch.
It should be noted that these initial selections are not always permanent. Several Steelers players have changed their numbers after the cut-down period opens up other digits. Last year, Steelers fifth-round pick Yahya Black wore No. 78 in the offseason before switching to No. 94 in the fall.
