Cornerback Jamel Dean has picked which number he will wear with the Pittsburgh Steelers .
After the Pittsburgh Steelers officially signed cornerback Jamel Dean to a three-year, $36.75 million contract on Friday, it was announced that he'll wear the same jersey number he has for the past seven years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .
According to NFL Jersey Numbers , Dean will don the No. 35 once again in the black and gold.
Running backs Lew Nichols (2025) and Jonathan Ward (2024) were the last two players to wear No. 35 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's safe to assume the team has much higher expectations for their new No. 35.
Dean, 29, is a 6-foot-1, 206-pound cornerback who was the Buccaneers' third-round pick out of Auburn in 2019.
He became a full-time starter midway through his second season, helping the Bucs to a Super Bowl LV title at the end of the 2020 season. Since then, he's been a regular starter for the team over five seasons, almost exclusively playing at outside cornerback.
In 2025, Dean played in 14 games, recording 46 tackles, one tackle for loss, two quarterback hits, one sack, two forced fumbles, nine passes defended and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown against the New York Jets .
Per Pro Football Focus, he allowed a 47.7 passer rating rating when targeted last season, and allowed just one touchdown. Now he gets to team up with cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in Pittsburgh's secondary.
