Without DeShon Elliott for the latter half of last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had to adjust on the back end of their defense. Jalen Ramsey moved to safety, while Chuck Clark , Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers cycled in beside him.
Elliott, who badly hyperextended his knee during a Week 8 primetime loss to the Green Bay Packers and missed the rest of last season, posted an Instagram story on Saturday showing he's back working out.
"First Day out ." Elliott wrote with the video, which showed him getting work in on a turf field under sunny Florida skies.
Elliott, who turns 29 next month, is entering his eighth NFL season and third with the Steelers. He signed a two-year, $12.5 million contract extension last offseason that will keep him in Pittsburgh through 2027. He's played in 19 games in black and gold, starting all of them.
With the Steelers, Elliott has two interceptions, eight passes defended, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 146 combined tackles.
Ramsey, meanwhile, has been floated as a possible cut candidate for the Steelers this offseason, but it appears more likely they keep him than not. Ramsey said last season that he enjoyed the challenge of trying something new after sliding back from his customary cornerback spot.
"Thirteen (years) or something like that, so it's been a while," Ramsey said . "It's definitely not (like) riding a bike. It's tough, but fun. I mean, I love football, all pieces of it, I'll enjoy and try to embrace. I guess you could say maybe it brings sort of a new energy for me just because playing corner for 10 years, you kinda learn the game and it becomes, 'Same old, same old, same old every day, man.'"
