Steelers Head Coach Search: Making the Case for Anthony Weaver

With a record-tying ten head coaching positions available this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers will face serious competition in courting their next head man in charge. After conducting a half dozen virtual interviews, Team President Art Rooney II and General Manager Omar Khan have their first three in-person sit-downs taking place this week. The list of chosen candidates includes Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, ex-Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. The latter of which has been a particularly hot commodity throughout the cycle, believed to also be a finalist for the Baltimore Ravens gig, potentially among others.

Despite all of the NFL interest that Weaver has received lately, it feels like he’s become an afterthought in the eyes of many on the outside looking in. While his defensive background matches the organization’s tried and true philosophy, he probably falls more in line with the CEO archetype of head coach, mirroring the paths of other former players such as Dan Campbell and Mike Vrabel.
