The Pittsburgh Steelers
are hosting a potential first-round offensive lineman for a pre-draft visit at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Monday, as Utah offensive lineman Spencer Fano
will be one of the team's 30 pre-draft visitors.
Fano spent three years as a stater for Utah, playing one season at left tackle in 2023 and then the last two at right tackle. The Steelers don't have a need there, but Fano could shift to the guard position at the NFL level, thanks to short arms at 32 1/8 inches.
The Steelers could also use Fano at right tackle and flip Troy Fautanu
back to his collegiate position of left tackle, where the Steelers still have an unsettled situation. Broderick Jones
, the team's first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has begun to work out
after neck surgery ended his 2025 season prematurely, but there's no firm time frame on when he will be ready to play, or any assurances of how he'll look after the long layoff.
Fano is widely projected to be drafted ahead of the Steelers' first pick of the 2026 NFL Draft
, as he's currently the No. 11 player on the NFL Mock Draft Database
consensus big board, and the second-ranked offensive lineman, behind projected top-five Miami
tackle Francis Mauigoa, and ahead of Georgia tackle Monroe Freeling
and Penn State guard Vega Ioane.
The Steelers sent head coach Mike McCarthy
and general manager Omar Khan
to Georgia's pro day, but have not had any reported pre-draft meetings with Ioane, suggesting they may value tackle versatility more than just a first-round guard.
Other than his arm length, Fano tested well, running a a 4.91-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-5 5/8, 311 pounds and posting a 32-inch vertical and a 9-foot-3 broad jump.
