The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted a potential second-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft , cornerback Chris Johnson, for a pre-draft visit on Tuesday.
Johnson is the first cornerback and the highest-rated prospect to visit tight the Steelers at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex so far. The team can bring in a total of 30 players, plus local visitors, between the NFL Combine and the 2026 NFL Draft. Johnson and Miami quarterback Carson Beck visited on Tuesday to make six countable visitors so far.
Johnson is a 6-foot, 193-pound cornerback out of San Diego State. A two-year starter for the Aztecs, Johnson was a highly productive college player, breaking up 13 passes, making 116 tackles, five interceptions and forcing four fumbles over his 2024 and 2025 seasons.
He had four interceptions last year, including a Mountain West-leading two pick sixes.
Johnson played exclusively outside cornerback for the Aztecs, a position the Steelers don't have a serious need for going into the 2026 season, with Joey Porter Jr. , Jamel Dean , Asante Samuel Jr. and Brandin Echols all having experience there.
But he could be a potential candidate to move to the slot, where the Steelers have 31-year-old Jalen Ramsey installed as a short-term option.
Johnson is the No. 45 player on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, which puts him in range of the Steelers, who have the No. 53 overall pick in the second round.
