- Steelers Must Pursue Star WR and Former Aaron Rodgers Teammate
The Pittsburgh Steelers have played at a high level in the 2026 season, as they hold a 6-2 record and are atop the AFC North.
The Steelers need to be active at the trade deadline to improve their roster, as they could have a legitimate shot at competing for a Super Bowl. Pittsburgh could use another wide receiver on their roster, as Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson are dealing with injuries.
That could leave the Steelers in the market to trade for a wideout, and star New York Jets Garrett Wilson would be a valuable addition.
Wilson has proven to be a reliable receiver in his career and previously played with Rodgers on the Jets. The 26-year-old would instantly be the top receiver in Pittsburgh and is locked up through the 2030 season.
Wilson had over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons, but didn't reach that mark in 2025, as he only appeared in seven games due to injury.
In 2026, Wilson has played at a high level, with 43 receptions for 527 yards and three touchdowns. The best season of his career came in 2024 with Rodgers as his quarterback, when Wilson had 101 receptions for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns.

Although Wilson should be a dream target for Pittsburgh, the Jets see him as part of their future. The Steelers would likely have to part with multiple early draft picks to have a chance of acquiring him.
Pittsburgh's offense could use a player of Wilson's caliber, as star wideout DK Metcalf has struggled. Metcalf has had multiple drops in the 2026 season and has only caught 33 passes for 378 yards and a touchdown.
The 28-year-old wide receiver is on a four-year, $132 million deal through the 2029 season, but hasn't performed up to his contract. The Steelers will hope that he can turn his season around, and adding another receiver like Wilson could help unlock Metcalf.
Pittman could also have a major impact when he returns from injury. Rookie Germie Bernard is also a solid weapon, with 32 receptions for 284 yards and a touchdown.
Adding Wilson could fully unlock Rodgers and the passing attack and give them a shot at making a deep playoff run. In the 2026 season, Rodgers has completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 1,871 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Pittsburgh's front office has a chance to make a splash at the deadline in Mike McCarthy's first season as the Steelers' head coach to contend for a Super Bowl.
