UNITY TWP, Pa. —Along with Jalen Ramsey , the Pittsburgh Steelers plan on placing second-year cornerback Donte Kent on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list to start training camp .
Kent, who missed his entire rookie season thanks to a pair of injuries in 2025, was back on the field with his teammates at OTAs.
The team's seventh-round pick out of Central Michigan in the 2025 NFL Draft , Kent suffered an ankle injury in training camp that lingered through most of the regular season.
On Dec. 3, the Steelers opened the 21-day practice window for Kent to return from the injured reserve list, but in his first practice back, he suffered an ACL injury that shut him down for the season.
The same thing also happened to Cory Trice last year, who was on IR with a hamstring injury and tore his ACL on his first practice back. The Steelers waived Trice with a failed physical designation just before the start of OTAs.
Kent appears to still be in the team's plans at this point, even if he's not currently a full participant.
The Steelers did not make an obvious addition to their depth chart at slot cornerback this offseason, with Kent once again behind veterans Jalen Ramsey and Brandin Echols .
Pittsburgh selected Kent with its second pick in the seventh round, No. 229 overall, in the 2025 NFL Draft. A four-year starter at Central Michigan and three-time All-MAC honoree, Kent brings intrigue as a developmental prospect with notable athletic traits .
"I just have a dawg mentality," Kent said about his ball-hawk traits. "That ball is my ball. My mindset is I'm going to go make a play on the football every pass thrown my way."
