Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren has been unstoppable through eight games in the 2026 season, even earning NFL MVP hype from legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
On a recent episode of the Footbahlin' with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, Big Ben claimed that Warren's immaculate start to the season deserves MVP or offensive player of the year recognition.
"He should start start to be talked about in some MVP stuff," Roethlisberger said. "Like league MVP or offensive MVP — player of year. His numbers and some of the stuff he's doing is pretty impressive."
There have only been 18 instances where a running back won the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award in league history, with the last winner being Adrian Peterson back in 2012. That doesn't exactly instill confidence in Warren achieving this feat in 2026, but Big Ben knows greatness when he sees it.
Warren, who signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2022, has really broken out in 2026, recording 998 yards from scrimmage through eight games, which includes an incredible 6.9 yards per touch.
Among the NFL's top running backs, Warren is currently ranked sixth in rushing yards with 704, behind No. 1 Bijan Robinson who has780, No. 2 Jahmyr Gibbs who has 773 and No. 3 Kenneth Walker III who has 770, No. 4 Bucky Irving who has 728, and No. 5 James Cook who has 707.
Although Big Ben's hopes that Warren could earn an MVP nod seem unlikely given how difficult it is for a running back to win the award in today's league, there's no questioning how absolutely electrifying he has been with a football in his hands.
