The Pittsburgh Steelers are wrapping up their second week of training camp and preparing for their first preseason game. Based on what we've seen from the roster so far, as well as pending offseason needs, we've updated our five-round mock draft for the 2027 NFL Draft with the goal of filling as many roster holes as possible.
This time around, we also chose not to include a quarterback at any point in the mock. It almost feels a little too obvious at this point. The option to pick a quarterback in the first round is going to be there, as well as some free-agent options but we wanted to take a different approach this time around.
First round - TE Jamari Johnson - Oregon
It feels like this team has gotten all it can from Pat Freiermuth and needs an upgrade to pair up with Darnell Washington for the future. Johnson is a freakish athlete and has the upside to be dominant as a receiving threat.
Second round - S Jelani McDonald - Texas
Depth at safety is an issue so we waste no time addressing the future of DeShon Elliott 's spot with the athletic and versatile Jelani McDonald.
Third round - WR Ryan Coleman-WIlliams - Alabama
If Ryan Coleman-Williams lasts to the third round, this pick is a no-brainer. He had a down season in 2025 but we expect him to return to form as one of the best big-play receivers in college football this season.
Fourth round - DT Tyrique Tucker - Indiana
We love the move of Yahya Black to nose tackle so it makes sense we bring in Tyrique Tucker, who is a natural nose and run stuffer, to work as his backup.
Fifth round - LB Kip Lewis - Oklahoma
Assuming either Malik Harrison or Patrick Queen is gone during or after this season, we like Kip Lewis as an active and athletic replacement.
