The Pittsburgh Steelers have released former Pitt strong safety Brandon Hill , the team announced on Friday, just days after signing him.
Hill participated in one practice at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side with the Steelers on Tuesday, and then flew with the team to Buffalo, where he appeared in 14 snaps on defense against the Buffalo Bills on Friday.
Hill, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2023 NFL Draft, and has bounced around the league from Houston to the Las Vegas Raiders and most recently, the Chicago Bears , who released him on Aug. 11.
A 5-foot-11, 195-pound native of Apopka, Florida, Hill redshirted in 2019, and became a regular in 2020 before starting in his final two seasons at Pitt in 2021 and 2022. He had three interceptions and nine passes defended over his Panthers career, including a pix six in 2020 against Florida State.
In the NFL, Hill appeared in one game with the Texans as a rookie in 2023, before being released and catching on with the practice squad for the remainder of the year. He missed the entire 2024 season with a season-ending knee injury, and was released in the spring of 2025 with a failed physical designation.
He returned to Houston practice squad for one week in December of 2025 before catching on with the Raiders to close the season. He was re-signed by Houston on Jan. 14, but his contract was allowed to expire.
Hill remained a free agent until he was signed by the Bears on Aug. 8, but he was released three days later.
Hill was one of 11 players released on Friday . The Steelers have until 6 p.m. on Sunday to complete their cut-down process, to get from 91 players to the league-mandated minimum of 53.
He will now go through waivers until 1 p.m. on Monday, when Hill will be eligible to be added to the Steelers practice squad.
