The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed two veteran players to the 90-man roster to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
Pittsburgh held minicamp and had some veteran players on tryouts, and the Steelers signed two of them. Steelers insider Mike DeFabo of The Athletic revealed on X that Pittsburgh has signed veteran linebacker Jamin Davis and tight end Robert Tony to one-year deals.
"The Steelers just announced they've officially signed LB Jamin Davis and TE Robert Tonyan to one-year contracts," DeFabo wrote on X. "Both were at minicamp for tryouts, join the 90-man roster and will compete for spots in Latrobe."
Davis was a first-round pick of the Washington Commanders in 2021, who selected him 19th overall out of Kentucky. After three good years in Washington, which saw him record 104 tackles, three sacks, and nine tackles for loss in 2022, he was released midway through his fourth year.
Davis has since bounced around teams, as he spent time on the Green Bay Packers practice squad, the Minnesota Vikings roster, the New York Jets offseason roster, and the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad, before appearing in two games last season.
After being released by the Raiders in April, he inked a one-year deal with the Steelers and will compete for a roster spot.
Tonyan, meanwhile, is a familiar face for Aaron Rodgers , as they played together from 2018 to 2022 with the Packers. The tight end caught 11 touchdown passes during Rodgers' 2020 MVP season.
The veteran tight end spent five years with Green Bay before playing one season with the Chicago Bears and Vikings, and spent last season with the Kansas City Chiefs , recording just one reception.
Tonyan joins a tight end group that features Pat Freiemurth, Darnell Washington , JJ Galbreath, and Lake McRee.
