Just hours before the start of the NFL's legal tampering period, the Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to a one-year contract. According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, the one year deal is for $4 million dollars.
Pittsburgh signed Samuel as a free agent back in November of last season when he was medically cleared to return to football. Samuel had been out since October of 2024 with a shoulder/neck injury that some worried would be a long-term situation. However, Samuel ended up playing 222 defensive snaps over six games and had one interception.
Bringing Samuel back doesn't have any major impact on the team's plans at cornerback or need, but this is a perfect low-risk/high-reward signing given how well he played down the stretch. The Steelers still need a starting outside cornerback but a fully healthy Samuel could be the answer in the slot the Steelers need.
