PITTSBURGH —The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed rookie cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau , the team announced on Monday, after hosting him for a tryout during the team's off day on Sunday.
Guilbeau, 22, was an undrafted free agent out of Texas this spring who originally signed with the Carolina Panthers . Guilbeau was released by the Panthers with a non-football injury designation on July 22.
A 5-foot-11, 190-pound cornerback from Port Arthur, Texas, Guilbeau played both inside and outside cornerback for the Longhorns, though he likely projects as a slot cornerback at the NFL level.

He worked as a reserve his first two seasons, before becoming a starter in 2024 in the slot. He moved outside in 2025, and recorded his first career interception while breaking up three passes.
In pre-draft testing, Guilbeau showed solid explosiveness, with a 34.5-inch vertical, a 10-foot-5 broad jump and a 6.86-second three-cone drill, but just average long speed, with a 4.53-second 40-yard dash. He had an overall Relative Athletic Score of 6.95 out of 10.
The signing of Guilbeau comes amid a rash of defensive back injuries for the team. Cornerbacks Donte Kent (knee), Joey Porter Jr. (back), Jalen Ramsey (knee), Brandin Echols (ankle) and Daylen Everette (undisclosed) and safeties Jaquan Brisker (undisclosed) and Israel Mukuamu (lower body) all missed the team's Week 2 preseason loss to the New York Jets on Friday night.
In addition to Guilbeau, the Steelers also hosted cornerbacks Eli Ricks and Dee Williams for tryouts on Sunday.
Ramsey returned to practice from the PUP list on Monday, while Mukuamu was released to make room for the signing of Guilbeau. In addition to Guilbeau, the Steelers also announced the signing of rookie running back/fullback Alex Tecza on Monday.
