The Steelers are already taking steps toward next season, and on Friday, they announced they have signed tight end J.J. Galbreath to a Reserve/Future contract.
Pittsburgh signed Galbreath as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft, but didn't make the active roster.
Galbreath spent some of the season on the Steelers practice squad, and now he's aiming to secure a spot on the 53-man roster for the upcoming season.
The 24-year-old tight end played four seasons at South Dakota, starting in three of them. During his college career, he amassed 1,355 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
Pittsburgh is likely to have a fresh look on offense next season following head coach Mike Tomlin's decision to step down. With Tomlin no longer coaching the Steelers, this could mean offensive coordinator Arthur Smith might be on his way out.
The Steelers seemed to lean heavily on formations featuring three tight ends during Smith's tenure. If Smith doesn't return, the Steelers may not utilize as many tight ends, which could leave fewer roster spots for Galbreath to claim a place on the active roster.
