PITTSBURGH —If things come down to the final 15 minutes on Monday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be at a disadvantage.
The Steelers allowed 174 fourth-quarter points during this regular season, the most by a team that reached the playoffs in NFL history. They gave up 21 such points to the Green Bay Packers in Week 8, 17 to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, and 15 to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.
How does Mike Tomlin's shore things up late against the Houston Texans on Monday?
"Just lock in more, I guess," veteran safety Jalen Ramsey said on Saturday.
Inside linebacker Malik Harrison said the unit is aware of its late-game struggles. He added that the defense talks about it every week. He chalked the shortcomings up to "just making mistakes, that's what it really is. We put three good quarters in, and the last quarter, (we're) just missing assignments," he said.
It's not something the Steelers can concern themselves with going forward.
"We can't think about it while we're moving ahead," Harrison said. "But it's still in the back of our head. … But we can't worry about that. We've just gotta worry about what play's ahead of us."
C.J. Stroud and the Texans posted 26 points in the final frame of a 36-29 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10. They also put up 20 fourth-quarter points against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4. If the Steelers want to notch their first postseason victory in almost nine years, they can't have the same sort of thing happen to them.
