While there have been many bona fide superstars who have come and gone in the NBA over the last two decades, no two players have left a greater imprint on the league, its players, and the rest of the basketball world than LeBron James and Steph Curry .
With a combined eight NBA titles, seven MVP awards, and countless records between them, Steph and Bron have helped shape the league into what it is today: a global juggernaut that isn't slowing down any time soon. However, Father Time comes for everyone, including hoop legends.
As the two navigate the final years of their illustrious careers, the opportunity to ride into the sunset in the same jersey has arisen. And according to Steph, it's a chance he would like to have.
LeBron's the hottest free agent in the NBA
Even though he'll turn 42 and will be playing in his 24th NBA season, the fact that every team is calling LeBron to recruit him speaks volumes about his brilliance on the hardwood. Yes, Father Time has caught up. He may have lost a step or two and can't make crisp defensive rotations like he used to.
While it's easy to point out what Bron no longer is, it's hard not to take notice of what he still is: an efficient scorer who can still get to his spots and deal a lot of damage and a brilliant playmaker who will make the defense pay if it pays too much attention to him.
Curry said that the thought of playing with James in the NBA has always crossed his mind, but he has never entertained it, given that James has his own team to lead. But with the King open to playing more of a supporting role now more than ever, this could be the right time, and Golden State the right place, to make it happen.
"Up until probably two, three years ago, that was like a pipe-dream question or even a thought. But that's part of the allure. Him going into his 24th season, me going into my 18th, the battles we've had, that would be such a unique story in NBA history, in sports history," Curry said at a press conference at the American Century Championship.
"But a little premature right now to talk about it."
United States forward LeBron James and guard Stephen Curry celebrate after the game against Serbia in a men's basketball semifinal during the Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games at Accor Arena on Aug. 8, 2024.
Curry knows the Warriors' chances of acquiring LeBron aren't as high as the Cleveland Cavaliers or stacked teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat . However, he said that if James gives them the green light, they'll move heaven and earth to ensure they set the table up perfectly.
"It's kind of up to him. I feel like any place he calls and says I want to play there, you move mountains to make it happen," Steph shared.
Curry has a straightforward pitch for LeBron
Steph and LeBron have been in the league for far too long and have a history with one another, so they don't need fluff to interact. So the Warriors megastar cut to the chase and made his pitch to Bron as plain as day.
"The pitch is: Do you want to play good basketball and be around people that know how to play the game?" Curry stressed. "Hopefully raise our floor and our competitiveness this year. There's good golf in the Bay.
"We're an organization that's been there. He knows that. That's really self-explanatory. It's a matter of where he sees himself fitting. At the end of the day, that's up to him."
While other teams have wildcards and wildcats, the Warriors feature many players who have proved themselves on the big stage. Curry, Draymond Green , Al Horford , Kristaps Porzingis , and Moses Moody have all won titles. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr knows how to maximize LeBron's talent as he did during their gold-medal run in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Warriors have left a seat open for LeBron to join their organization, and all that's left to do is for him to pull up and take it.
