The Denver Broncos got the biggest win of their young season when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, and some players who have had quiet seasons made plays to help Denver get it done. Sam Jane of the Denver post lauded several of them in his weekly stock report, and these were the risers:
Jonah Coleman, RB
Coleman was a difference-maker for the second week in a row, and against the Chiefs he delivered the big play the Broncos absolutely had to have to win this game. There are a couple of ways to support his selection here — per Jane, his 104 yards from scrimmage marked the first time a Broncos running back exceeded 100 yards from scrimmage this season.
Moreover, Coleman's two-play, game-winning sequence, a 51-yard catch followed by a 5-yard touchdown run was an excellent example of the receiving ability and contact balance he showed at Washington.
Troy Franklin, WR
Franklin's receiving lines haven't been all that, but he did the little things against Kansas City. Start with his blocking on Coleman's fourth quarter catch-and-run, and he drew a pivotal pass interference call early in the game to jump start the Broncos offense and give quarterback Bo Nix some easy yardage.
Then add in the rub route he ran to free up receiver Jaylen Waddle for a one-yard touchdown pass, and it's as complete a game as you'd want to see from any receiver, catches or not.
JL Skinner, S
The hard-nosed safety is mostly a special teams player, but Skinner stood up Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III in a one-on-one matchup wiht the game on the line, per Jane. Skinner has played just 56 defensive snaps in his Broncos career so far, but the Broncos might want to rethink that after what he just did against Walker to win the game.
Ja'Quan McMillian, CB
No one should be surprised to see McMillian on this list at this point, as he stymied receiver Xavier Worthy in the Chiefs' first throw at the goal line, and if it feels like McMillian is making some kind of big play ever week, that's because he does.
What's even more impressive about this is that McMillian is making those plays with regular cornerbacks Pat Surtain II and Riley Moss out of the lineup. They're back now, but it was still McMillian who stood out and got it done.
