After five straight losses, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes got back in the win column by beating the Kansas State Wildcats 27-24 Saturday in an overtime thriller. Although Colorado prevailed, the game also revealed CU's problems with penalties.
Colorado was flagged eight times for 53 yards, plus three declined penalties, and Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders addressed the issue during a team meeting the day after the win. That meeting was recorded by Deion Sanders Jr.'s Well Off Media YouTube channel.
"first and foremost, man, I said it yesterday after the game. I'm truly proud of you. What I'm proud of you is for your resilience, the fight all the way through it. It took us in kind of on an emotional roller coaster, but nobody gave up. I didn't see quit, and nobody had no turnovers. We had how many? One, but we still won. That don't happen. Penalties. KSU had five for 35 yards. Actually, we had 11 because they declined three. Eleven penalties. Coaches, players, 11 penalties. That stuff hurts," he said (Timestamp: 7:25).
Sanders added that this should not happen again, as the Buffs (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) had issues with penalties during their five-game losing streak. The Buffaloes' penalties cost them in a 27-24 loss to then-No. 11 Utah, with the team committing 10 penalties for 93 yards. Against Kansas State, Colorado penalties nearly cost the team the win.
Colorado Coach Deion Sanders Ruled Out of Florida State Coaching Search, Report Says
Meanwhile, there was a lot of buzz following the firing of Florida State Seminoles coach Mike Norvell, as one of the names that popped up as a possible replacement was legendary former FSU cornerback Deion Sanders. However, a report from Yahoo! Sports says that will not be happening.
A source with knowledge of what is happening in FSU's coaching search reportedly told the outlet that "while there is an appetite for an 'FSU guy,' the top brass does not want the baggage Sanders brings. They need stability right now, and his style does not fit that bill."
Sanders is considered one of the school's all-time greats, with the school retiring his No. 2 jersey.
