Hockey insider Elliotte Friedman is reporting that Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has informed GM Steve Yzerman he would like to be traded.

Friedman said he confirmed this was multiple sources, although he doesn't have any public comment from the key figures. There has been tension between Larkin and Yzerman at various times, and Larkin is disappointed that the team has missed the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons. He is a Michigan native and he feels pressure to restore the Red Wings to respectability.
Owning a full no-trade clause, Larkin can control where he goes. He also has five years remaining on a contract ($8.7 million AAV).
He's a consistent 30-goal scoring center in a league where many teams are looking for centers. Interest in him will be widespread.
Even though Larkin is an American, his father's roots are in Toronto . Would the Maple Leafs , with John Chayka now in charge, make a run at him to have Austin Matthews and Larkin as a strong one-two center combination?

The New Jersey Devils reportedly might be willing to move Nico Hischier . The difficulty of that deal from Detroit's perspective is that Hischier's contract expires after next season and he will be a UFA. How much does he want and would he sign with the Red Wings?
Larkin is also close with Columbus defenseman Zach Werenski . The Blue Jackets , a team seemingly on the rise, would love to bring in a player of Larkin's ability. The Minnesota Wild and Los Angeles Kings are two other teams looking for a center.
Depending on how accommodating Larkin is on a trade, this could be potentially disastrous for the Red Wings. They are already in need of a No. 2 center. Imagine the challenge of a finding a No. 1 and No. 2 center.
That's why don't be surprised if Yzerman if holds the line on not making a deal until he at least a strong return. You won't see Larkin moving for draft picks and prospects.
