The 2026-27 Phoenix Suns remain one of the greatest enigmas in the upcoming NBA season.
Questions surrounding the overall roster construction and a lack of high-end talent are just two of the reasons to be skeptical.

This is reflected in Law Murray's ( The Athletic ) position-by-position ranking for all 30 teams. As a matter of fact, the point guard arrangement of Devin Booker and Collin Gillespie is the only Phoenix group to reach the top 10 of these rankings.
The conversation surrounding each position group is fascinating, but the focus of this conversation will center around how the wing positions are being overlooked within the scope of the league.
The Suns come in at #18 at the small forward spot. Dillon Brooks and Jordan Goodwin sit behind groups such as the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, and Los Angeles Clippers. For starters, Brooks may not be the most efficient or metric-friendly player, but his quality as a shotmaker, hard-edge defense, and unabashed aggressiveness all make him a consensus top-100 player.
An argument can certainly be crafted that Brooks is a better player than other starters in the same tier, including Josh Hart and Ausar Thompson.

Beyond this, Jordan Goodwin has to be given due respect in his own right. The breakout player of Phoenix's 2025-26 season stands at only 6'3", but a massive wingspan allows him to play forward. The Saint Louis alum is one of the most effective defensive players in the entire NBA, and is rapidly improving on the offensive side of the ball.
Rankings such as these must weigh the balance between starter and reserve, but in this case each spot the Suns hold carries their own weight.
The power forward arrangement (Miles Bridges, Ryan Dunn) of no. 25 seems to be reasonable at this point of time. However, this duo has a chance to climb up this ranking as the season progresses. Bridges' potential on the defensive side of the ball gives him an opportunity to surpass peers such as Tobias Harris (San Antonio Spurs), as well as John Collins (Detroit Pistons).
As far as Dunn is concerned, this is a fair assessment of the Virginia product at this moment as well. The skepticism surrounding Dunn's growth is in merit, but if his preseason play is leading to purchasing stock, this may prove to be a wise investment over the next several months.
