The Syracuse women's lacrosse season came to a disappointing end this past spring via a loss in the NCAA Tournament.
The Orange are hopeful to remain in national contention, not just for the upcoming 2027 season, but for many seasons moving forward.
One way to help continue that success is obviously landing top-tier recruits. And while the Orange typically do a good job in the recruiting department, they did miss out on a local recruit earlier this week.
Here's what you need to know.
Maura Beckwith is ranked as a five-star recruit in the Class of 2028, according to Prep Girls Lacrosse's rankings. Beckwith is from Liverpool, N.Y., which sits in the Central New York area. Many fans of the Orange were hoping she would commit to Syracuse.
A left-handed attacker, Beckwith also played with the Monster Elite travel team. According to content creator Riley Kennedy on the social media platform X, Beckwith will be signing with another ACC school, Clemson.
The Tigers finished 15-6 last season and qualified for the NCAA tournament. Clemson won its opening round game by defeating Davidson, but then fell to eventual national runner-up North Carolina in the following round.
By losing Beckwith to a fellow ACC school, the task of winning the conference became a bit more difficult for the Orange. While Beckwith's impact and playing time is still unknown, the goal is for SU to acquire top-tier talent, and everybody likes to keep local talent at home.
After going 13-5 during the regular season, the Orange were selected to participate in this year's NCAA tournament. In their opening round matchup, Syracuse defeated Loyola (MD) 8-6. In the following round, Syracuse's season came to end in the quarterfinal round in a loss to Navy. The Orange led by as many as six goals but fell to the Midshipmen in overtime 11-10.
The Orange suffered a big blow to the program when Caroline Trinkaus entered her name into the transfer portal.
Trinkaus had ranked as the team's second-leading scorer last season with 31 total goals. Fellow sophomore Molly Gizuk led the team in scoring with 44 goals.
Trinkaus has scored more than 60 combined goals in two seasons with the Orange. Trinkaus will play for Boston College next season.
