Team USA Makes Tyler Rogers Decision Ahead of 1st Blue Jays Season
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Tyler Rogers has had a wonderful career in Major League Baseball . Through seven years in the majors, the submarine-throwing right-hander has a 26-23 record in 420 appearances out of the bullpen, pitching to an incredible 2.76 ERA across 424 innings.
Rogers was taken in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants out of Austin Peay State University. He stayed in the Giants' organization until he was traded midseason in 2025 to the New York Mets .
The 35-year-old led all of baseball with 81 appearances last year between the Giants and Mets, having a 1.98 ERA in 77 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out 48 batters while walking just seven.
This offseason, Rogers was a free agent and signed a three-year, $37 million contract with the defending American League champion Blue Jays .
He was one of multiple big-name free agents to sign with Toronto before the 2026 season, including starting pitcher Dylan Cease , who signed a seven-year, $210 million deal , and star Japanese infielder Kazuma Okamoto , who inked a four-year contract worth $60 million.
On Thursday, before these new Blue Jays stars begin the 2026 regular season, it was announced that Rogers has been added to Team USA's roster for the quarterfinal round of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
"Official Team USA changes so far: Skubal , Wacha , Yarbrough off the quarterfinal roster. Will Vest , Tyler Rogers, Tim Hill added to the quarterfinal roster," said The New York Post reporter Jon Heyman.
Rogers was in the reserve pool for Team USA during the pool play round, making him ineligible to play then. However, with rosters changing for the knockout rounds, Rogers will have the opportunity to represent his home country on one of the sport's biggest stages.
He and Team USA will take on Team Canada in the WBC quarterfinal on Friday at 8 p.m. ET at Daikin Park in Houston , Texas . The game will air on Fox.
