Some of the biggest questions early in the season for Tennessee Titans fans are what is going on with linebacker Cedric Gray and why his playing time has been limited. Both are valid; Gray burst onto the scene in 2025 and would have likely led the NFL in tackles had he not suffered a late-season concussion.
After missing the opener with a concussion, many expected to see him back in his role early on, and that hasn't happened, with veteran Cody Barton holding a snap advantage. But that changes in Week 6, when Gray played more than Barton and made plays.
On Thursday, defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said Gray has made strides in communication and accepted the challenge set by the coaching staff. Gray confirmed this after practice.
"I definitely think it was a challenge that they kind of put on me to be better with that, and different things like that, kind of take on more control. (I'm) trying to continue to do that."
It was a great sign to see Gray record more snaps against the Indianapolis Colts, and that trend could continue. The Titans' defense is more athletic and would benefit from his presence. No disrespect to Barton, who has held his own and done a great job helping rookie Anthony Hill Jr., but Gray can make more plays.
From the staff's perspective, Gray is earning their trust and should continue to see his snaps increase.
