Terry Miller, Matt Holliday selected for Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026
Two of Stillwater’s own are set to be inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.
Terry Miller, a star running back for Oklahoma State from 1974-77, and Matt Holliday , a seven-time MLB All-Star and World Series champion from Stillwater, will be two of six inductees into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026.
They will join the 2026 Hall of Fame class along with former OU quarterback Sam Bradford, auto racing competitor and promotor Emmett Hahn, OU women’s gymnastics coach KJ Kindler and former OU linebacker Rod Shoate at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame’s Inductees Welcome Luncheon on March 26 in Oklahoma City.
Miller was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1977 and fourth-place finisher in 1976. He played in 43 games for the Cowboys and rushed for 4,754 yards and 49 touchdowns with three 1,000-yard rushing seasons – the only Cowboy to accomplish that feat.
Both Miller’s rushing yard and touchdown totals rank second in OSU history. Only 1988 Heisman winner Barry Sanders’ rushing touchdown total and Thurman Thomas’ career rushing total rank above his marks. Miller still holds OSU records for most career 100-yard rushing games (26) and most consecutive 100-yard rushing games (19).
Miller was the fifth overall pick to the Buffalo Bills in the 1978 NFL draft. He spent three seasons in Buffalo, where he ran for over 1,000 yards as a rookie, and one with the Seattle Seahawks in 1981 before ending his career.
Miller joins other OSU football greats, like Sanders, Thomas, Leslie O’Neal, Mike Gundy and more, in the Hall of Fame. Miller was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022 and the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor in 2023.
Holliday was born and raised in Stillwater and played multiple other sports besides baseball at Stillwater High, including being the Pioneers’ star starting quarterback. He is the son of longtime OSU baseball coach Tom Holliday and brother of current Cowboy baseball head coach Josh Holliday.
Matt Holliday was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the seventh round of the 1998 MLB draft, and after time in the minor leagues was promoted to the Rockies’ roster in 2004. Holliday played 15 seasons in the big leagues as an outfielder and slugger, winning four Silver Slugger Awards with seven appearances on the All-Star team.
From 2004-08, Holliday was a three-time All-Star and led Colorado to the 2007 World Series. After a short stint with the Oakland Athletics in 2009, Holliday later that year became a star for the St. Louis Cardinals , who he played for until 2016. He was a four-time All-Star and 2011 World Series champion with the Cardinals.
Holliday spent a year with the New York Yankees in 2017 before retiring with the Colorado Rockies in 2018. Holliday played 1,903 games during his career, finishing with a .299 batting average, 2,096 hits, 316 home runs and 1,220 RBI.
