The Houston Texans are not out of it yet , as the club has now won two straight games after taking out the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-31 on Sunday. This matchup came down to the wire, as Houston only clinched the victory in the closing seconds of the contest.
Texans kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn hit the game-winning field goal from 49 yards out to secure the win. While it was a back-and-forth matchup throughout, Houston managed to take advantage of its final play to avoid going to halftime.
Whatever problems Houston was having in the first four games of the campaign appear to be a thing of the past. While the defense did allow 31 points to the Jaguars in London, the Texans seemingly dug deep to pull off a big win to remain in the mix of the AFC South.
C.J. Stroud looked like a franchise quarterback in Week 6. He ended the contest with 312 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while completing 70.5% of his pass attempts. The 25-year-old signal-caller hit 10 different targets, with Nico Collins, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Jaylin Noel leading the way in receiving.
The Texans are now just two games behind the Jaguars in the AFC South standings. Pending the results of the Week 6 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts, Houston could go into Week 7 tied for second place in the division with Indy.
While the club is 2-4 on the season, things may look much worse on paper than what has actually transpired early in the 2026-27 campaign. Three of the Texans' losses have been by five points or less, as the team has played competitively. Houston will aim to go three in a row in Week 7 when the club takes on the New York Giants at home.
