- Texans Likely To Stay Quiet At NFL Trade Deadline Despite Disappointing Start
The Houston Texans entered the 2026 season with expectations of competing for an AFC title, but the first half of the year has not gone according to plan. With the NFL trade deadline approaching, Houston could be tempted to make a major move in hopes of salvaging its season. However, the Texans would be wise to avoid making desperate additions and trust that the talent already on the roster is enough to turn things around.
Houston has not lacked talent. C.J. Stroud remains the centerpiece of the offense, while Nico Collins, Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter give the team established playmakers on both sides of the ball. The roster has the pieces of a contender, which makes the team's disappointing start even more frustrating.

The problems have been more about execution, consistency and getting the most out of that talent. The defense has struggled to meet expectations, and the offense has had its own stretches of inconsistency. Those issues have contributed to a season that has fallen well short of what the Texans envisioned.
Making a trade for the sake of making a trade would not necessarily solve any of those problems. Houston could add another recognizable name, but that player would still need to fit into the system and contribute immediately. Giving up valuable draft capital for a short-term fix could also hurt the team's ability to build around its current core in the coming years.
The Texans have already made a significant move by trading for Marvin Harrison Jr., adding another talented weapon to their offense. Harrison has the potential to give Stroud another dangerous option in the passing game and help Houston address some of its offensive shortcomings. That addition could prove to be the kind of impact move the team needs without requiring a series of other deals.
Beyond that, there is little reason for Houston to overhaul its roster before the deadline. The Texans should be evaluating what they have, identifying the areas that need improvement and finding ways to get more out of the players already in the building.

That does not mean General Manager Nick Caserio should ignore every opportunity. If the right deal becomes available at the right price, Houston should be willing to listen. But there is a difference between making a calculated move and trying to rescue a disappointing season with another splashy acquisition.
The Texans still have time to change the narrative surrounding their season. Their roster has enough talent to compete, and the focus should be on getting that talent to perform consistently. Houston also shouldn't look to trade its own talent away, which is something that could happen with a disappointing season like this.
Houston's biggest deadline move may already be in the books with Harrison's arrival. Rather than chasing another deal, the Texans should concentrate on fixing their issues on the field and giving their current roster a chance to live up to its potential.
