- Texans Make Major Gamble in Trading for Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

The Houston Texans have made a splash move, acquiring former Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals. The former No. 4 overall pick will now be reunited with his college quarterback, C.J. Stroud, in what could be a significant addition to Houston's offense.
The news comes right after the Texans secured their first win of the season, a dominant 26-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. Houston is now 1-4 on the season, and Harrison will be entering the fold as the franchise looks to turn things around and get back into the playoff picture.

However, this move required significant draft capital. The Texans will send a 2027 second-round pick and sixth-round pick to Arizona in exchange for Harrison and a seventh-round selection. Given the direction Houston's season has gone thus far, that second-round pick could end up being extremely valuable. If the Texans continue to struggle, it could realistically be a selection in the 30s, just outside of the first round.
And that's what makes this such a significant gamble for Houston.
Harrison was one of the most highly regarded receiver prospects in recent NFL Draft history, ultimately going fourth overall in 2024. But his production has gradually declined since entering the league. After recording 885 receiving yards as a rookie, he finished with just 608 yards last season. Through four games in 2026, Harrison has managed only five receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown.
A fresh start was clearly needed, and reuniting with Stroud could be exactly what Harrison needs to get his career back on track. The two already have familiarity from their days at Ohio State, and pairing Harrison alongside Nico Collins gives the Texans another talented weapon in the passing game.

There's certainly significant upside given Harrison's pedigree, age and potential. At just 24 years old, there's still plenty of time for him to develop into the type of player many expected when he entered the NFL.
But if Harrison doesn't experience a resurgence with this change of scenery, Houston will have surrendered valuable draft capital for a player who hasn't lived up to expectations.
Ultimately, it's too early to determine whether this trade will pay dividends for the Texans. But it's undoubtedly one of the biggest moves of the NFL season and a relatively rare example of a former top-five pick being dealt this early in his career.
Houston is betting on Harrison's upside and his familiarity with Stroud. Now it'll be up to the young receiver to prove that gamble was worth making.
