Former Eagles safety Reed Blankenship recently departed Philadelphia to sign a three-year, $24.75 million deal with the Houston Texans in free agency. Now a Super Bowl champion and one of the best young safeties in the NFL, Blankenship quietly switched agents and signed with Athlete's First, most famous for David Dunn and David Mulugheta. Mulugheta recently negotiated the record-breaking contract extension Micah Parsons signed with Green Bay after being dealt by Dallas to the Packers for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark .
The $8 million per year average puts Blankenship outside the top 20 highest-paid safeties, but it's a huge raise for the former undrafted free agent who developed into a reliable safety out of Middle Tennessee State and played his first two seasons at the NFL's minimum salary before earning escalators and a one-year extension.
During a recent sit-down with Aaron Wilson, the former Eagles safety may have raised some eyebrows when he said joining the Texans is the first time in his career he feels truly wanted, both as a player and as a person.
The 26-year-old Blankenship has been a starter the last three seasons, playing 50 games and logging 9 interceptions, 308 tackles, one forced fumble, and 23 pass breakups. Still, 2025 may have been his worst season.
