Anytime a team returns a Gatorade National Football Player of the Year finalist, it's reasonable to expect some offensive firepower night in, night out. That was not the case for Randle (Texas) on Thursday evening vs. Westfield .
The Lions, buoyed by senior running back Landen Williams-Callis , a four-star prospect committed to the Texas Longhorns, were only able to muster three points at home in their second game of the 2026 season. Somehow, that turned out to be good enough, as their defense blanked the Mustangs, propelling them to a 3-0 victory.
According to Dave Campbell Texas Football's Greg Tepper , Thursday's game was only the fourth 3-0 finish across the last four seasons in all of UIL 11-man football. It's the first since the opening week of the 2024 season, when Granbury defeated Waco .
It's a shock when you remember that Randle has a player of Williams-Callis' ilk at its disposal. The blue-chipper was certainly utilized, tallying 33 carries, finishing with 149 rushing yards. To his credit, he did lead the second-half drive that ended with Randle kicker Yasin Mohammadinailing the decisive 28-yard field goal.
Williams-Callis was essentially unstoppable during his junior season. He finished with 3,502 rushing yards and a whopping 59 touchdowns. He entered his final campaign with Randle at 125 scores on the ground.
Randle won the Class 5A-II state title in 2024, then returned to the championship game in 2025 before losing in a rematch vs. South Oak Cliff . The Lions have made the move up to 5A-I this season, so the two scheduled a rubber match for the opening week of this season. Randle came out on top 20-14 behind 232 yards and two scores from 'LWC.'
It comes as a surprise that despite scoring just 23 points through two games, the Lions are off to a 2-0 start. They'll look to really get rolling offensively next week at home vs. Victoria East . Randle is currently the No. 12 team in Texas, per the Rivals Composite Rankings . Westfield, now 1-1, will host Willis next Thursday, Sept. 10.
