Texas A&M football has four games left to rescue a disappointing 2026 season, and the road ahead couldn't look much tougher for Mike Elko and the Aggies.
After Saturday's 31-20 loss at Alabama, Texas A&M enters its bye week at 4-4 overall and 1-4 in SEC play.

Just one year removed from an 11-1 regular season and a College Football Playoff appearance, the Aggies are now fighting simply to reach a bowl game.
And their remaining schedule isn't doing them any favors.
Texas A&M must face South Carolina, No. 16 Tennessee, Oklahoma and No. 11 Texas over the final four weeks. Winning two would secure bowl eligibility, but with the Aggies struggling to move the football, even that modest goal looks increasingly difficult.
The numbers explain much of the concern.
Texas A&M ranks 105th nationally in total offense, 72nd in scoring offense and 129th in plays gaining at least 20 yards, according to the statistical rankings cited entering the bye week.

Quarterback Marcel Reed has struggled with consistency, particularly against stronger SEC defenses.
The Aggies managed just six points against LSU and another six against Missouri, exposing an offense that has repeatedly failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Their first challenge comes November 7 at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks have found momentum behind quarterback LaNorris Sellers and defensive standout Dylan Stewart.
Playing at Williams-Brice Stadium presents another obstacle for an Aggies offense that hasn't consistently handled pressure.
A week later, Tennessee visits Kyle Field on November 14.

The Volunteers' defense figures to test an offensive line that has struggled in pass protection.
Texas A&M will have home-field advantage, but that won't matter much if Reed is constantly operating under pressure.
Then comes a November 21 trip to Oklahoma.
Brent Venables' Sooners have experienced offensive inconsistency of their own, but their defense remains among the SEC's strongest.
That matchup could become particularly uncomfortable if Texas A&M can't establish its running game.
Finally, the Aggies host Texas on November 27 in the Lone Star Showdown.
The Longhorns have been unpredictable, beating Ohio State and Ole Miss while losing to Oklahoma and Florida.

Still, Arch Manning and an offense loaded with playmakers could present serious problems for Texas A&M.
The question now isn't whether Elko can get the Aggies back into the playoff conversation.
It's whether he can prevent a once-promising program from finishing with a losing record.
An 0-4 finish would leave Texas A&M at 4-8, an almost unthinkable outcome following last season's breakthrough.

Elko doesn't necessarily need four victories to save the season. But he desperately needs an offensive turnaround.
And the clock is running out.
