Texas A&M football enters Saturday's matchup with Arizona State in relatively good shape, but there's one important name Aggies fans should watch closely before the 11 a.m. CT kickoff at Kyle Field.
Linebacker Daymion Sanford remains the biggest availability question after missing Texas A&M's 50-0 season-opening win over Missouri State. Sanford dressed and went through pregame work last week, but Mike Elko ultimately held the veteran defensive captain out.

That decision didn't hurt the Aggies against Missouri State.
Texas A&M's defense overwhelmed the Bears, allowing just 67 total yards, four first downs and 1.7 yards per play.
But Arizona State presents an entirely different challenge, especially after quarterback Cutter Boley threw for 387 yards and six touchdowns in the Sun Devils' opener.
Getting Sanford back would give Texas A&M another experienced defender against an Arizona State offense capable of attacking every level of the field.
The Aggies already know they'll be without two players for the season.

Defensive tackle Chace Sims and running back Tiger Riden Jr. were ruled out before the opener because of season-ending injuries.
Riden appeared in five games last season, carrying 11 times for 45 yards and a touchdown, while Sims was expected to provide additional depth along a talented defensive front.
Beyond those long-term absences, Texas A&M hasn't reported another significant injury coming out of Week 1.
That's important considering the jump in competition.
Arizona State scored 70 points in its opener and possesses substantially more offensive firepower than Missouri State. Texas A&M will need its pass rush, linebackers and secondary operating close to full strength to prevent Boley from settling into a rhythm.

Arizona State has its own confirmed absence. Cornerback Nigel Pringle, an offseason transfer from Arkansas, is out for the entire season following an injury suffered during preseason camp. Pringle was expected to contribute to the Sun Devils' secondary rotation.
Because Saturday is a nonconference matchup, there isn't a mandatory SEC availability report providing a definitive list of questionable players.
That makes pregame warmups particularly important.

For Texas A&M, Sanford is the name to watch. If he returns, the Aggies will enter their first meaningful test of 2026 with nearly all of their primary contributors available.
And against an Arizona State offense coming to College Station with confidence, that would be a significant boost.
