Texas A&M lands massive commitment from Tennessee transfer CB

Texas A&M's 2026 cornerback room received a significant boost, as Tennessee transfer cornerback Rickey Gibson, who is slated to visit College Station this weekend, committed to the Aggies on Thursday, becoming the 13th portal commitment for the program less than a week after the transfer portal opened last Friday.

Due to injury, Gibson was sidelined for all but one game during the 2025 season, but his play in 2024 stood out, recording 32 tackles, five pass breakups, and earning impressive Pro Football Focus grades, including a noteworthy 76.3 coverage grade. Standing at 6'0" and nearly 190 pounds, Gibson possesses the size and speed to make an immediate impact on the outside at right or left cornerback.

Needing more quality depth and starting-level players in the secondary was crucial, providing new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill a solid group to work with during his first season at the helm. With the news that cornerbacks Dezz Ricks and Julio Humphrey will return for a final season, adding Gibson to the rotation looks like the final piece to the puzzle.

Gibson logged over 636 snaps during his first two seasons, while starting all 12 games during the 2024 campaign. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, Elko continues to value long-term options over one-year rentals in the portal.

Combined with securing Colorado transfer safety Tawfiq Byard's commitment, Texas A&M's 2026 secondary is ready for battle this fall.
